Getting myself in the room … Impact Wedding Summit 2020

I am just getting settled back here in Salem, Oregon (Home) after a week of fun & sun in Orlando Florida for the very first Impact Wedding Summit. My husband was along for the trip but he was there for vacation, haha. We stayed at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort which was a beautiful resort at Universal Studios, complete with an awesome pool, incredible service and free water taxi to City Walk … we couldn’t have asked for better accommodations!

Impact Wedding Summit is open to everyone in the wedding industry and it’s purpose is to break the barrier of a new era in the industry and a new community not built on ego but built with community and relationships! The Summit is hosted by Brittani + Jon Hon of Hustle + Flow, and The Hons Photo.

Back in February of 2019, I attended another workshop from Jon & Brittani which is the OG Hustle + Flow business workshop and I was blown away with the education they brought, the comfort they shared and the community they were building. I was in a room with 40 other incredibly talented photographers & videographers but I felt so at ease (that is not the normal for these events). I was able to grow my business and provide more for my clients, educate them and be more myself all at the same time which felt like a dream. I knew I could trust any product from them and I have since invested in more education from them to include this brand new summit they are starting so they can provide to more than just photographers but anyone in the wedding industry. We need to work TOGETHER and this is where we start!

I am refreshed to say the least at where the wedding industry is going. Taking egos out of the picture and putting ourselves out here to serve our clients the absolute best we can. I feel great for this path I have chosen, I love all my couples past and present and can’t wait to see who I will meet next.

I have literally had times I didn’t want to be in this industry because I saw so much ego and selfishness and that’s not what I am about and not what it should be about. I remember planning my own wedding and at times just feeling like everyone was out for my $$$ but didn’t really care about ME … When I decided to be a wedding photographer I knew I wanted it to be more than just taking pictures and more about helping and connecting with couples. I wanted to create a brand that was laid back, transparent and honest and I wanted couples to choose me not only for my work but for who I am and what I offer as well. From this community and from Jon & Brittani I have learned not to just get myself in any room but the RIGHT room … it makes a world of difference.

There is so much strategy behind all this to make sure the right couples find me but I am learning and I love learning! What is even better is learning from people walking your same path and not holding back their best practices. This past week I learned from from some incredible industry peers …

Chris Ramos on How to Improve Client Experience

Vanessa Hicks on Blogging

Chelsea Abril on Work/Life Balance

Steph Zakas on Elopement Photography and How To Find Your Why

Jayleigh Flood on Using Instagram as a Tool

Sara Welch and Finding Your Voice with Emails

John Branch IV on Leaps of Faith and Failing Forward and finally, the incomparable

Katherine Marchand and The Power of Presence

and also Andy Maurer who is a keynote speaker and licensed therapist, and works with high performance leaders, including CEO’s, founders, entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and TV personalities, educating and equipping them on the issue of toxic stress and trauma and its impact on their work and relationships.

Annnnd what do you do after you meet 200 other incredible entrepreneurs in your industry!?! You PARTAYYYYY… Even Jordan Kimball from the freaking Bachelor was there … Hellllooo! I can’t lie, I love the dance floor so I spend pretty much the whole party on that thing because the DJ was a total boss and killed it! I may have walked away with a broken pinky toe buuuuut, #WORTHIT
